CHAL (rising tide in local language* near Saint Malo) has been created in 1975 by a couple of sailing boat fans who followed their boat in Saint-Malo.
In 1976, CHAL loisirs shop opened within the walls of the old city of St Malo (intra-muros), with a speciality in quality nautical clothing and equiped numbers of competitors of the firsts "courses du Rhum" between Saint-Malo and Pointe à Pitre in the french west indies.
In 2001 the family company left the traditional boutique to work online only.
CHAL became one of the first french companies selling online with the opening of our first online shop brittanyboutique.com
CHAL grows year after year with a wider range of quality nautical clothes.

More and more of our customers used to coming to see us in order to see things by themselves and were received in the old barn transformed into a micro-shop.

* All brittany was not Gaelic speaking. Gaelic spread as far as St.Brieuc and Dinan, but further east, Saint Malo and Rennes areas used to speaking a local language (patois in French) called GALLO which was half french.
